Wan-lei Zhao pursued his doctoral studies at City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Professor Chong-Wah Ngo. He received his Ph.D. in November 2010. From February 2011 to December 2013, he pursued the postdoctoral research at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau in Germany and the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA, Bretagne Atlantique) in France.
He focuses on multimedia information retrieval and multidimensional time series analysis. In multimedia information retrieval, his research covers mainly the vector database index structure design and unified feature representation of multimedia data (e.g. text, image, and visual instances). In multidimensional time series analysis, his research focuses on the online anomaly detection and short-term trend prediction. In addition, he also conducts research on optimization algorithms to help enterprises optimize the production planning in the manufacture indurstry by mathematical modeling.
