Dr. Zhang primarily engaged in research in the fields of green and intelligent construction within civil engineering, with a focus on intelligent concrete 3D printing technology and the resource utilization of construction & demolition waste along with sustainability assessment. During doctoral studies, Dr. Zhang participated in multiple research projects including an international cooperation project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a key R&D program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Fund. Dr Zhang's research output was also involved in several related practical engineering projects, such as a multi-story 3D-printed concrete residential structure and the complex-shaped 3D-printed concrete retaining wall structure for the Hong Kong Ho Man Tin MTR station. Dr. Zhang published 15 SCI-indexed papers (5 of which are ESI Highly Cited Papers) and 2 EI-indexed papers, and 7 intellectual property achievements, including national invention patents, software copyrights, and overseas invention patents. Dr. Zhang serves as reviewer for journals such as Cement and Concrete Composites and Structures, and as a Guest Editor for a Special Issue of Buildings.
