The Historical Dimension of the Construction of the "Chinese Nation Community": A Comparative Analysis of Three Editions of Chinese Ethnohistory in the 1930s

Abstract:Establishing and founding the "Chinese Nation Community" is an important foundation for national unity and national development in China. The writing of history is a very important dimension in the process of building the community. Since the beginning of the 20th century, China has begun the process of building the Chinese nation community. At that time, a group of scholars with a strong sense of historical mission tried to build the sense of identity of Chinese nation through the study of ethnohistory, in order to find the legitimacy of "Chinese Nation Community". This paper makes a detailed analysis of three important works on the Chinese ethnohistory in the 1930s to see how different scholars wrote the history and how they viewed the construction process of the "Chinese Nation Community" from a historical perspective. Their research not only had domestic and foreign troubles for China at that time. It is of great significance and has a far-reaching impact on contemporary understanding of the formation and development of the Chinese nation community. Their researches are of great significance not only to China with internal and external troubles at that time, but also to the formation and development of contemporary understanding of the “Chinese Nation Community”.
